What Ontario taught us

Ontario launched iGaming in April 2022 — 50+ operators, $69.6B in wagers. The revenue worked. The compliance didn't.

No Standards
Each operator built their own compliance training — no centralized platform, no consistency, no regulator visibility
$285K+
Fines levied against operators (BetMGM, theScore, others) — not for money laundering, but for documentation gaps
70,000
Compliance reports backed up after FINTRAC's 10-month cyber outage — each taking up to 1 hour to file manually

The lesson: Leaving compliance training to individual operators — with no standardization, no centralized platform, and no regulator visibility — creates an expensive, risky mess. Alberta has the chance to not repeat this mistake.

We've been working with BC's LCRB since early 2024 to address exactly these challenges. Here's what we built.

🛡️ SafeGaming™

Alberta iGaming launches May 20th

Players need to be verified. Operators need trained workforces. Responsible gaming needs infrastructure — not a patchwork of vendors.

Identity
Every player must be verified for age and Alberta residency before accessing iGaming platforms
Training
Operators need workforce compliance training. Players need responsible gaming awareness.
FINTRAC
Regulatory compliance isn't optional — identity verification must be baked in from day one

The question isn't whether you need this infrastructure.
It's whether you build it from scratch — or partner with the team that already built it in BC.

We've already done this in BC

The BC Liquor & Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) chose WKT and Credivera to build their responsible training and credential infrastructure.

BC LCRB — Live since 2024

  • WKT powers the LCRB Responsible Training Center
  • Credivera powers verifiable digital credentials
  • BC residents complete training → receive verifiable credential
  • Credentials stored in digital wallet — BC Person's Credential
  • Training credentials imported into the wallet
  • BC now migrating from BC Wallet → Oliu™ for interoperability

What took BC years to build piecemeal, you can launch with on day one.

From provincial wallets to a national network

BC built a provincial wallet. It works — but it's a walled garden. They're now moving toward the Oliu™ wallet because they want interoperability.

Alberta iGaming Corp doesn't need to build a wallet or a network.

Built-in responsible gaming

The same infrastructure that verifies identity can power self-exclusion — it's a natural extension, not a separate build.

Across ALL operators
Network-wide

Because every player is credentialed on the network, self-exclusion works across every operator — not just one site at a time.

This is a concept overview. Full self-exclusion design would be scoped in the discovery phase.

🛡️ SafeGaming™

Alberta can lead

SafeGaming™ ID is a national credential. Alberta iGaming Corp would be the first jurisdiction to adopt it.

Born Here
Oliu™ technology was built by ATB Ventures — the Government of Alberta's own innovation arm. This tech is coming home.
Proven
Not a concept. LCRB is live in BC with real learners, real wallets, real verification. We're bringing the same stack to Alberta.
National
SafeGaming™ ID is designed to work across Canada. Alberta adopts it first — other provinces follow the standard you set.

You're not buying a custom build. You're adopting a national standard early — and shaping it for gaming.

🛡️ SafeGaming™

Start where you need

SafeGaming™ is modular. You don't have to adopt everything on day one.

Foundation

Training Center

Branded SafeGaming™.ca training portal. Awareness content, workforce training, operator compliance. Fast to launch — ready for May 20th.

Full Ecosystem

Training + ID + Operator API

The complete SafeGaming™ network. Operator login integration, network-wide credential verification, and the foundation for self-exclusion.

Most partners start with Foundation and expand as they see the value. LCRB started with training and is now on the full credential stack.

🛡️ SafeGaming™

A model that works

Designed so Alberta iGaming Corp gets infrastructure without carrying the cost.

🪪
Player credentials — reasonable unit-based cost per player, one-time. Provides assurance for operators and powers the network.
🎓
Workforce training — paid by gaming operators themselves. No cost to iGaming Corp for workforce compliance.
⚙️
Platform management — maintenance fee for the training center. Custom programs built on spec and charged as user fees.

Specific pricing would be scoped during discovery — tailored to your requirements and volumes.

Let's explore this together

We're not asking you to commit today. We're asking if it makes sense to take the next step.

1

Sit down with your team. Understand your regulatory requirements, the May 20th timeline, and what you need.

2

Scoped Proposal

Based on what we learn — not a generic pitch. Tailored to Alberta iGaming's actual requirements.

3

Build Together

Proven infrastructure, adapted for you. Ready for May 20th and designed to scale nationally.
